Nuclear Deterence Operations Service Medal (NDOSM was created by usaf20yrs
We all are probably familiar with the NDOOSM that recognizes working with or around nukes. The start date was in 1991. My question is why? I worked as an ART/SRT/FSC in the missile field of Minot from 1982-88. Those who worked the field know how bad it could get out there. Responding to alarms in sub zero temps. Why did the Sec AF at the time feel our contributions weren't worthy enough?

That's a good question that sadly no one has been able to answer. My guess it was because a) a date had to be established and the deciding authority just picked a date, and 2) fiscally to limit the cost of the award. Since they provide the medal/ribbon to each person who qualifies and requests it. Can get mighty expensive.
Anyway, welcome. I was also at Minot in the missile field while you were there. I was there 86-94.
